Shelter Our Shepherds Event on Friday, October 24 at 7:00 pm

Dear Parishioners of Ave Maria,

This Friday, October 24, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. we are holding a wine & chocolate tasting for adults and a candy/popcorn buffet for kids. This is a fundraiser for the Shelter Our Shepherds rectory project. The cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children with a cap of $35 for larger families.

The social hour will be from 7-8pm where you can sip wine and taste chocolate. Then at 8:00 p.m. we will have only the live auction featuring the following items:

  • Dinner for up to 12 in the new rectory, prepared by our own Father Gus! He won’t toot his own horn, but he is quite a chef and you might even get to taste his home brew as well – minimum bid $300
  • Brats and Beer for 6 at the home of Deacon Pete and Margaret McCann – minimum bid $100
  • Christmas Tea for 4 at the Brown Palace Hotel on December 31st at 11:00 a.m.- valued at $200
  • 3 nights in a Green Mountain Falls cabin that sleeps up to 5 for a stay from May-October. There will be a cleaning fee of $100, but all other fees are included in the stay – valued at $450
  • An airplane ride with Ed Huber in his 2 seat aircraft south of Franktown and lunch for two afterwards in April 2015 – valued at $250
  • 1 week stay in a 2 bedroom condo at Lake Condos in Big Sky in Montana the week of July 19 2015 – valued at $1000

We are changing the service portion of the auction to an online marketplace for a few reasons. The date for the auction is the same as Confirmation, Teams of Our Ladies retreat, and some fall breaks.  So to make the services more accessible to those who cannot be in attendance, there will soon be a portal announced where you can go and sign up for services donated and make a payment directly to the SOS campaign. Details will be announced soon.

And for those who are unable to make it to the auction Friday night, we will have one item set up for a silent auction online—that is a second condo at Big Sky with 2 bedrooms plus a loft. It will be available the week of July 19 2015.

Please RSVP online at or email Patty McKernan.

Thank you and may God bless your day and your family.

Compassion in Action Mandatory Parent Meeting on Tuesday, October 7

Mandatory parent meeting to be held on Tuesday, October 7 from 7:00-8:00 pm in Brownstein Hall. Both parent and teen are required to be present.  SET Training and Refresher immediately following meeting.

Want a great way to contribute to your community through social justice and earn community service hours? Are you in 8th Grade or above? This is the program for you!

  • Compassion in Action is a social justice outreach program designed to connect teens with relationships beyond their friends. It connects teens with adults in the parish, the needy in their community, and to the larger Church. The focus is human dignity and will be centered on the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
  • How it works: teens who sign up for this program will be going out into the community, one Saturday per month, for 5 months, to volunteer their time and talent. Participants may be serving the elderly, the poor, the disabled, the Earth and animals at a variety of different work sites.
  • Each teen who completes this program will receive 25+ hours of community service.
  • Work site dates: Oct. 25th, Nov. 22nd, Jan. 24th, Feb. 28th and Mar. 14th from 9am-3pm.
  • Please contact David Riddle for questions at 720-237-6899.
